Sanxenxo: A hidden gem in Galicia, Spain!

First of I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TRAVELING so I'm always looking for new places to discover. So when it came to the hubby's birthday I knew what I wanted to do. It was an extra benefit that he made it clear he wanted it to be just him and me and that he didn't want any surprises. Well I did make sure it was the two of us but I love surprises so I couldn't help myself. It got me into a little trouble when I said I had to drive and he had to have his eyes closed or be blindfolded. He threw a fit and I almost felt I had a child for 10 minutes but then he got into it and even let me walk him to the room with his eyes closed. I had to bump him into a few walls on the way just to get back at him for being so difficult at the beginning though. LOL

Sooo anywayssssss...Andrés had been whining about how he missed the beach back home so I was happy when I found a pretty nice beach area close to Santiago de Compostela and even more excited when I saw the weather was going to be amazing.

Forty minutes from Santiago, in the province of Ponteveedra, lies Sanxenxo. It is widely regarded as the best and most exclusive beach resort in Galicia. They say during the summer there's a lot of partying and loads of people in the beach. February is in they're low season so most of the city was empty and a lot of restaurants closed until mid March but we loved and enjoyed sun tanning for a little while (weather was good), room service lunch and drinks on our room balcony watching the Silgar crystal water beach. We went for one day only but it was a definite retreat.

The one thing I discovered when I was looking where to stay is that most of the hotels there are Spa Resorts with amazing hydro massage pools and spa services. I had never been to a specialized spa hotel so I was excited about that. When it came to deciding where to stay I went for the Gran Talaso Hotel that was the only hotel I saw that was right in front of the ocean which was the main reason I went there in the first place. I must say it was AMAZING. The room we got was completely oceanfront and incredibly cozy and nice. Btw we got room 201 and I'm almost sure all odd numbers are oceanfront. Oh and also, the hotel has two separate buildings, make sure you stay on the main one, where the reception is. That's the one that is completely oceanfront. So if you ever go to Sanxenxo give this hotel a try. The massages we got were nothing to brag about so I would pass on that although the ocean water hydromassage pools were very nice and clean. You can get a package with access to the pools but no massages. That's what I will do when we go back. If you are going more for the Spa experience I read that Hotel Carlos I Silgar or Augusta Spa Resort are the places to go and they have some ocean view rooms. Hotel Carlos I Silgar had the best reviews and they have rooms starting at 60 Euros a night with breakfast included. But if you are going for the beach experience don't think it twice, the Gran Talaso Hotel is where you need to go. Here are some pics of our Sanxenxo experience. Have some hidden but amazing spots you want to share?!! I would love to hear all about them! It could be my next destination. :)
