I could only wish that I was one of those people who can sit on their behinds all day, eat everything they want, not workout at all and not gain an ounce. However, reality bites and I'm not like that and apparently neither is Gwyneth! I need to workout or do some kind of exercise every day. Lucky for me that I can't bare the idea of sitting and doing nothing the whole day. I need to be active!! But when it comes to workout it's a whole different story. I don't get excited at all about working out even though I feel horrible when I don't. So, if you are like me, here's what I do to keep myself motivated about working out.
1. Choose something you ENJOY: I LOVE dancing so I take classes that have some sort of choreography to them. I do combat, body jam and steps (my favorite because of how much I sweat. Makes me feel I'm shedding pounds ;)).
2. Either in the front or far from the door: To make sure I finish those classes I either go to the front of the class or in the furthest corner from the door. When I'm at the front I go extra hard on my workout because I feel the person behind me might be trying to follow me. It's mental and I try to think that way so I go the extra mile. Besides, if I gave up everybody would see me leave the class and although I'm one of those who don't care a tiny bit about others people opinions I do care of the opinion I have about myself. I go into everything convinced that I'll succeed so the image of looking at myself giving up is one that I doesn't fit in my head. When everyone is already at the front I go to the opposite side of the door. It's just easier to keep temptation away.
3. Mirror mirror on the wall: Doesn't matter what side of the room I'm at I try to be as close to the mirror as possible. I like to look at myself working out to make sure that I'm doing the exercises right and to push myself harder when I'm close to giving up. I just take a good stare at myself while exercising and tell myself "push it..just one more..YOU CAN DO IT!".
4. Oh dear DREADmill: When there's no other choice I'll do the treadmill (which I actually dread). I would rather run outdoors (if only it wasn't this cold! ugh!). For the treadmill my best advice is to have an amazing playlist on your ipod that keeps you entertained enough to not think about how many minutes left till you finish. Also whenever I'm getting frustrated with the treadmill I divide the time left in 5 minute lapses and just focus on finishing those 5 minutes and then onto the next 5 minutes. Ohhh ohhhh I almost forgot, and YES this is kind of weird, but to convince myself even more to finish that workout I do look forward and focus on a point and just see myself with the body I am trying to achieve at the end. I think everyone should want their own better body and not someone else's but, if it's easier for you, just get a reference of someone's body you like. Either if that's Gisele Bundchen's or J-lo's body just focus and see yourself with that body. It will definitely push you for those last minutes. It definitely works for me.
5. LOVE change!: Do something different every day. If you did a class yesterday, run today, do strength training or just dance in your room for an hour. I don't do the same classes every day. I like to keep my body guessing what I'm going to do next. So I try to do something different every day. Even if you only like the treadmill, run 25 minutes today and power walk for 10 and then do a 40 minute 10 minute intervals wprkput tomorrow. Just keep changing it.
6. Think then exist: The mind is the most powerful and important thing we own. If you see the pounds shedding when you workout you'll be more likely to lose them. If you have a negative attitude then that's what you'll get in return. As I said before, the most important opinion in the world is the one you have of yourself and if it's a great one Greatness is what you'll see in the mirror when you look at yourself. If you slip one or two days and don't do any kind of exercise, don't immediately think you gained 100 pounds or you'll start to feel like you did even if you didn't.
7. Don't think JUST DO IT: My other and best advise is DON'T THINK about working out! I wake up, do breakfast, get dressed and leave the house to go to the gym. I don't stop for a minute to think about working out or else I'm in trouble. I start thinking if I really need that workout today and you know whats' next: "yeah maybe tomorrow"(lol). So set your daily routine to try and workout every day at the same time so as soon as you know you are close to that time you just do everything automatically and not give yourself time to think about it.
8. Make it a Workout date!: Get a friend involved. It's always good to have a friend push you the extra mile when you are feeling like giving up. Plus if you already made a commitment to meet for workout it will give you that extra motivation to do it. I'm usually the one trying to get people to workout and a lot of the times my partners fail on me (or themselves. hehe) but don't give up. Follow tip #7 and JUST DO IT!
