Yes I know it's commercial and a reason to spend more money than you would but I like the idea of a day that celebrates love and friendship. And yes I know that day should be celebrated every day!! Anyways, for me Valentines is that one day I would rather have my hubby paint me a horrible mural on the wall with a huge messed up heart shape and the words "I LOVE YOU" that look like a 2 year old wrote them than have him get me a store bought gift. I mean, I won't reject a really cute bracelet but you get my point. So I've pinned some cute DIY ideas that I'm considering and wanted to share them with you. :). I'll give you an update on what I finally did.
- HEART SHAPED MEALS: I know hearts are so overdone on Valentines day but what isn't? It's like having a Xmas tree without a star or an angel on top. Plus I love hearts!! So anyways just make a list of his/her favorite food and make it an extra special meal. For instance if my hubby wanted to splurge and have all his favorite meals for a day this is what it would look like: french toasts for breakfast, breaded chicken or skirt steak with rice, beans and "tostones" for lunch, a cheese pan pizza for dinner and brownies or cheesecake for dessert. I mean he would rather have rice and beans for lunch and dinner but to make it a bit different I would do the pizza. hehehe. And obviously pairing it with his favorite wine. I've linked some recipes although some of them I do slightly different. This is kind of what it would look like if I hadn't become a health freak. One day won't hurt plus it will make it extra special.
- PERSONALIZED BASKET: I liked the idea of getting all his/her favorite stuff and personalizing it with labels. So for instance you could do a basket with favorite wine, chocolate, candy, perfume, chips, fruit and just put your own special printable labels with a lovely note on every item you have. You can spice it up with a love coupon book, fortune cookies with personalized notes or something he/she likes you to wear. Get creative ;). I saw this on Viva Revival Blog and this is what it could look like. There was another option at "Me and my insanity".
- SCAVENGER HUNT: Create some cute notes leading towards the next hint. At the end you can have some cute gifts or you might be the gift ;). Here are two links to some scavenger hunt notes Scavenger hunt 1 or Scavenger hunt 2.
